The physicians at The Chattanooga Heart Institute have been dedicated to clinical research for more than 20 years. Clinical research for our patients is viewed as an option offered in addition to their routine cardiac care. We are fortunate to be able to offer a research program as most trials are only offered at academic centers or in larger metropolitan areas. Any patient coming to The Chattanooga Heart Institute may be approached about a cardiovascular trial. Trials in which our physicians have keen interest are: interventional trials, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, new EP leads/devices, new stents or interventional devices (cardiac or peripheral), acute coronary syndrome, hyperlipidemia, and Phase II or III new drug trials. It is entirely the patient’s decision as to whether they choose to participate.
Why participate in a trial? Participants in clinical trials can play a more active role in their own health care, gain access to new research treatments before they are widely available, and help others by contributing to medical research. Some tests and physician visits may be at no cost to a patient when done through a clinical trial.
